On September 24, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Minader) actively participated in the **Celebration of African Cold Day**, which took place at the Advanced Polytechnic School, University of Douala. The event, celebrated annually across Africa, emphasized the vital role that refrigeration and cooling technologies play in modern society, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, health, and industry.
This year’s theme, “The uses of cooling technology in various sectors of activity, their importance in the well-being of populations, their proportion in the economy and in particular in Africa,” highlighted the growing relevance of cooling in the continent’s economic and social development.
Minader’s representative, Mr. Jean Bertrand Atangana, spoke at the conference, focusing on “The place of cold chain in agricultural production.” He emphasized the cold chain’s critical role in reducing post-harvest losses, improving food quality, and ensuring food security. Additionally, he discussed the importance of the AGRI COOL project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing cooling technology in the agricultural sector. The project’s objectives, funding sources, and work packages were promoted, stressing Minader’s commitment to its successful deployment.
The event was an excellent opportunity to showcase the benefits of refrigeration technologies and Minader’s role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring food security, and driving economic growth through innovative cooling solutions.
This celebration, along with the AGRI COOL project promotion, serves as a stepping stone for boosting awareness of refrigeration’s essential role in the agricultural and broader economic landscape of Cameroon.
