The Know-How Exchange Group Initiative

a group of people holding hands

The Know-How Exchange Group initiative brings together a diverse panel of experts and stakeholders, including members from industry, the academic community, and related projects. This initiative fosters the exchange of information and experiences, mutual understanding, and the formulation of common objectives that align with AGRI-COOL’s mission to promote sustainable solutions for rural communities.

By engaging a broad array of stakeholders, the group provides a platform for discussing technical advancements, exploring new opportunities, and identifying challenges that may impact the achievement of the project’s and members’ goals.

Through regular virtual and hybrid meetings, the Know-How Exchange Group actively takes part in key tasks such as capacity building, market engagement, and strategic dissemination. These meetings are coordinated with the project’s progress and are occasionally timed with workshops and events to maximize impact and participation. The group also focuses on building connections with local stakeholders and collaborates with other relevant projects to foster a dynamic network of sustainable and innovative solutions for the agricultural sector in Africa.

AGRI-COOL partcipating to the WEFE cluster (WATER-ENERGY-FOOD-COSYSTEMS)

The WEFE Cluster brings together eight projects — AfricaEnergyParks, RePower, SUNNY, AGRI-COOL, SWARM-E, LoCEL-H2, REFFECT AFRICA, and OPTiMG — united by a mission to advance renewable energy access and climate resilience in off-grid African communities through an integrated Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems approach.

Challenges faced by off-grid communities include:

  • Limited access to affordable, clean energy
  • Dependence on fossil fuels and non-renewable resources
  • Barriers to economic growth and resource insecurity
  • Pressure on water and food systems
  • Negative impacts on health and well-being

To address these challenges, the WEFE Cluster focuses on developing and implementing integrated solutions, including:

  • Renewable energy generation (solar, biomass, hydrogen)
  • Energy storage and microgrid technologies
  • Clean cooking and cooling technologies to improve health and reduce deforestation
  • Nature-based solutions linked to water and food systems
  • Smart digital tools for managing the water-energy-food nexus
  • Energy-efficient technologies and productive use of clean energy

The WEFE Cluster offers:

  • Coordinated dissemination and joint outreach activities
  • Knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices
  • Collaboration at key international events and forums
  • Policy recommendations to support sustainable renewable energy uptake

Together, these projects aim to create scalable, sustainable solutions that improve livelihoods, boost local economies, and build climate resilience across Africa
