The AGRI-COOL project was prominently showcased at the 16th International Modelica FMI Conference in Lucerne, Switzerland from 9–10 September 2025. PhD candidate Bahareh Bakhsh Zahmatkesh from the University of Twente presented recent advancements in Work Package 4 (WP4), which centres on system integration, digital twin development, smart control, and system design for AGRI-COOL.
Her poster, “Physics-Based Dynamic Modeling of Solar-Powered Off-Grid Cold Storage for Perishables Using Modelica: A Case Study — Xingalool, Somalia,” attracted considerable interest from attendees. The presentation ignited robust discussions about applying Modelica-based dynamic modelling to develop renewable energy-powered cold storage solutions suitable for remote, off-grid regions.

The Modelica FMI Conference proved a valuable occasion for knowledge exchange and networking with both the Modelica and digital twin communities. These connections further support AGRI-COOL’s overarching ambition to create sustainable, solar-powered cooling systems tailored for agricultural products in Africa, advancing energy-efficient storage and fostering local food security.
