AGRI-COOL was showcased at the pre-ESEF workshop on Climate-Resilient Cooling, Climate Change and Gender, organised by ECREEE and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) in Banjul, The Gambia. The workshop preceded the 10th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2025), held from 18-19 September 2025 under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Solutions for Growth in the ECOWAS Region.”Dr Charles Diarra, AGRI-COOL Project Coordinator at ECREEE, presented the project to an audience of energy efficiency focal points, policymakers, cold chain experts, academics, and civil society organisations from across West Africa. The session, moderated by Mr Peter Mendes, Principal Energy Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, generated significant interest amongst stakeholders.
Key Recommendations Following the presentation and discussions, participants recommended:
- Accelerating the design and technology transfer of the AGRI-COOL cooling chamber for deployment in Boa Vista, Cape Verde
- Seeking additional funding from EU partners to deploy the initiative in other West African countries
- Strengthening collaboration between ECREEE and West African universities for future projects
An international advanced training session is planned for June 2026 in Cabo Verde. Download the Session Report_ESEF 2025 - Sophia Agricool Emerge final prepared by Dr Charles Diarra, ECREEE.
